Continuing to grow in the cold

Updated: Aug 21, 2019

Although the weather outside is frightful it does not mean that growing in the winter have to be. There are still cold weather herbs that you can grow in the middle of January. Cilantro is one of my favorite herbs and it is hardy to the cold weather. I grew some outside in my garden and had some fresh cilantro over a tasty omelette. Cilantro can easily be grown in the winter in a container on a covered porch or an apartment balcony or in your home near a window to keep it cool. My mint usually survive the winter's cold but this winter has been pretty harsh on it. Usually it's the only thing that survives in the garden, but not this year. It can be grown in a container as well but I would suggest that you grow it separately because it is invasive. Basil is another herb that can be grown inside and will be delicious in dishes. So don't be afraid to grow in the cold.
